The following is the communication from Sidi about a Special Three Day Retreat to pray for peace and the end of suffering in the world with him at the Mother Center in Pope Valley. During Sidi’s teaching at the July school session of the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism, he announced that he had been shown to hold a three day retreat, unlike any other we have had before. He asked that it be held at the Mother Center in Pope Valley and encourages all to attend this holy retreat! It will be held as part of Sufi School West. August 8 to 14th with the Special Retreat August 12, 13 and 14.

This is Sidi’s message to All People:

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

This is a call for all the lovers of Allah (swt) and to those who carry the message of peace, mercy, justice and freedom and to those who carry the message of unity across the world:

It is a must that those who are pure and those who love Allah (swt) to know that we will be calling from the bottom of our hearts for all of you to come and join our prayers for peace, love, mercy, justice and freedom. We will be praying to Allah (swt) to grant us these blessings. We will be asking Allah (swt) to support those who are suffering in the earth, those who are besieged in their homes who are dying of hunger and for those who are sick and cannot afford medicines. We will be praying to Allah (swt) to stop all wars and to stop the destruction of people’s houses and to stop the abuse of nations’ resources.

We want to pray for all of those and to ask Allah (swt) to prevent human disasters which occur at the hands of those who deviated from the teaching of the One God who ordered us to know and acknowledge each other and to cooperate with one another for that which is good for all of us. Allah (swt), Glory to Him says:” Oh People! We have created you from a male and female and made you into nations and tribes in order to know each other. To Allah (swt), the most honored among you is the most conscious of him who guards himself against evil”.

Allah (swt) wants us to be one nation as expressed in His saying:” This is your nation: One nation and I am your Lord so worship Me”

This prayer will be a prayer for seeking forgiveness, for having an intimate invocation to Allah (swt) and to supplicate Allah (swt) in a special retreat for three days and nights, Insha’llah. The door is opened for anyone who carries the mentioned qualities from the children of unity, to attend.

The Guide of Peace, Love, Mercy, Justice and Freedom, one of the children of unity who loves God and all humans, one who wishes for every human to live without suffering, hunger or pain and who wants everybody to say yes for love, yes for peace, yes for mercy, yes for justice and yes for freedom for all people without making any separation:

Tuesday evening, insha’llah, will begin the special retreat which will last through Thursday night until fajr prayer on Friday August 15th. Friday will be a day of post Sidi integration with some teaching and other activities appropriate for this time.

The Story of Adam

Adam: The Caliph of Allah
peace and blessings be upon him

Bismi‘llah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Beloved, I now explain to you who you are. I tell you your story. This appears to be the story of Adam, but it is your story in the world of the soul, in the world before creation. This is the story of who you were then, before you came into existence. Listen deeply and remember. Be inside me to take everything from me because I speak to you from the essence of your soul, and in the essence of my soul I speak with my father in the light.

To understand who it is that is speaking with you now and who it is that really listens and what is the deep meaning of these words which pass between us, it will be necessary to go back and to look with a very deep gaze into the knowledge of your origin, which is buried within you. It will be necessary to be breathed into existence again by the divine sigh of compassion, to see yourself again, Adam as conceived in the eye of creation, to return.

When Allah said to the angels, “I want to make a caliph on earth,” the angels said, “Why? If you bring Your light down into the density of the earth, they will kill each other and abandon your holy way.” Allah said, “I am the Knowing and the Wise.” And He created Adam, the first caliph, the first vice-regent. He put His image in him, His light in him, the fragrance of all His attributes, and He taught him everything from the beginning to the end. He wrote everything in his heart – the hidden and the revealed. He gave him the presence and the truth; by presence, I mean a body and personal existence, and by truth, I mean the deep secret name of Allah and His qualities (as-sifat). He made him a mixture of the elements earth, air, fire and water, and from the breath of Adam the first-born birds emanated, and from the earth of Adam, mountains and trees and animals, and from the water of Adam, all of the beings in the sea emanated. Understand with the deep eye what is meant here by emanation. Adam, in the image of Allah, contained all the created universe within himself, and by the divine order from the completeness of the first-born, all the creation issued forth.

When the creation of Adam was complete, Allah commanded the angels to bow down, to prostrate before him. All the angels obeyed the order except Iblis, who seemed to refuse. Allah asked him, “Why do you not bow down?” Iblis said, “Why should I bow down to Adam when fire is greater than clay?” It would appear that Iblis refused the order of Allah, but in truth he realized the divine plan. Iblis is a complete presence. He is fire. And Allah in His Wisdom puts everything in its place. If fire and water were gathered together, one would destroy the other. In His wisdom, Allah put Iblis outside the door to the garden of His presence. Iblis is the guardian, the fire at the gate of the garden through which none but the purified may enter. When anyone comes to enter the garden, whatever within him is unclean or impolite will come up against Iblis and be turned back. Whatever in a person cannot bear the fire and cannot pass through it will be prevented from entering the garden. Whatever in the person is of the light is greater than the fire of Iblis and the golden essence will be purified by the fire and returned to the paradise of the presence of Allah.

Meanwhile the presence of Iblis cries out and sends its voice to every side saying, “I am the guide of the darkness. Allah placed me in this station. I know Him well and He knows me well. I love Him and I do not refuse any order from my beloved Allah. It is necessary that everyone is pure and polite before he can enter and live inside the garden of the knowing. He must pray the deep praying and wash himself of everything of this world, and then dress in clothes of light after everything within is transformed to be special for Allah. If anyone tries to enter with uncleanness and impoliteness and impurity, then I catch him by these qualities and turn him back. I am very strong because He helps me to keep every person from entering who does not love Him completely. For this reason you see that when He sent the order to the angels, I refused, but only on the outside because I knew where He would put me after that and this was the place where it was necessary for me to be. Inside I bear His image like you and there is no other face in all the worlds, but outside I wear the cloak of darkness. This is His wisdom and to Him everything returns. Change everything to know me well. Conquer me and I will surrender. I am the rock of darkness. I need the person who knows me to clean me, but he cannot clean me if he does not clean himself first. I live inside you, from every side – of body, heart, and soul. When you change yourself, you change me. Do not listen to my voice. My voice is full of darkness. I contain no knowing (from the outside). If you follow this voice, it guides you to the fire. If you refuse my order and do not follow me, you come to be free. Then help yourself because you will find your way well. You will find your guide, the perfected one, and he leads you to the garden of the grace of Allah and sits you with your beloveds on the holy rug in the garden of knowing. Then you can rest and know what Allah wants from you. Understand the outside and the inside of this teaching, and do not say why or what. This is my story in the world. I am nothing and He is everything.”

In His wisdom, Allah made Iblis a guide for the darkness, and He made the prophets from Adam to Muhammad, and then the perfected ones (al-insan al-kamil) as guides for the light. Everyone wants to listen to his guide. Then a battle ensues between the followers of the darkness and the followers of the light, and it is in His wisdom that all should not follow one guide.

The Guide of the Light continues:

My beloved, you are the picture of my Lord. Then look to me with the eye of my Lord within you if you really want to see me, if you want to know me well. I am not like any person you know. When you see through the eye of your heart, you will see the essence of the prophets. The eyes of the body see only the human being and this is not the complete picture. If you want to see me, look in your mountain. If it stays in place, you can see me. Understand beloved, that until you are really here, now, with all that you have, with yourself, with your heart, your soul, and everything, opening, listening, and not rejecting, you will not see me as I am or know me as I know you.

Although you may not remember, you are from the first of my children. I gave birth to you in pre-eternity. Please be with me in everything, and hold everything, and give everything to see everything in the light of your holy origin, in the essence of that which you are. You are the key and you are the door. Why do you stay in the ante-room? Follow me, my beloved, as I pass through every doorway to the truthroom of the innermost secret. Then you will see your Iblis lay down his life beneath your feet, and you will find me sitting in the deep knowing on the throne of your heart. I am the mirror of your Master and you are the mirror of Him in me. There is no difference between you and me and Him, if you want to understand what I mean.

Give me your ear and take care not to hear any voice, only the voice of your Beloved because your Beloved wants to make a holy marriage with you when He sends the word to your ear. This word is the first word and from this word – everything. This word is truly the first-born of all the creation. I am speaking about the holy word, “Be.” When you hear, you are born to be the holy child from this word. Do you know what I am speaking of as the holy child? This is the first light in the world of pre-eternity (al-azal). Listen to my voice to know my story, which is also your story from the first. If you listen, if you follow, and if you see me, then you can help me and I can help you to come to be One, to make the holy marriage, like before. Then you become the Moses of your time and your brother becomes the Aaron of his time. In order for you to carry your brother, to live for him and he for you, it is necessary to listen to every word that I say. If you touch, as I say, then you will arrive in the garden of knowing and live with your Beloved all the time, sleeping (and waking) between His arms. This is the life. There is no life like this life.

My holy beloved, listen to me to the story of the first world. “Know My beloved, that I am a hidden treasure that longed to be known. So I have drawn forth all of the creation out of Myself in order to know Myself. But how can My creatures know Me? I planted all My qualities in the ground of creation. When any creature comes to know on what ground he stands, he discovers all My attributes in the ground of his existence. In the mirror of My attributes, he comes to see himself. But how can he see himself in every quality? Every quality is a two-sided veil between the creature and his pure existence in Me.”

Every quality has at least two veils – the apparent veil and the interior veil. At first you can see the quality manifesting with the eyes of your face. For example, you see the big bird feeding the little bird. This appearance is from the fragrance of the real quality of Allah, the Merciful (ar-Rahim). When you look inside the quality, you find another veil, a veil of light in the world of the soul. The light of the particular quality of Allah veils the unlimited vastness of the reality of Allah, which is beyond all forms and names and attributes. But when you travel with the light of the attributes back through all the veils of its gross and subtle manifestations to the holy source which generated it, then without the cover of these veils you see that you are the mercy.

This is what I mean when I say that He put His qualities in you to see Himself in the mirror of your existence. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the mirror to be clear. This means to return every quality, from the beginning to the end, to Him. You cannot clean this quality without walking through it and removing the veils from it because He put Himself in you, deep inside, and to find Him you must strike through all of the attributes. This is like wearing ninety-nine clothes and every piece of clothing has two sides. If you want to touch the essence of the truth, it is necessary to cut through every dress. Allah is the Bride and you will not reach this holy Bride unless you penetrate all the veils to find Him. When you reach the truth of this Bride, you return to your real mother who is truth. You need to drink from her real milk until your presence dissolves in the ocean of the Truth.

What is every quality? It is important to know that every quality is a station from the beginning to the end. And you could not walk through any of these stations if He did not love you and help you. This is not from your hand. But it is He who desires that the treasure be known when He puts you in this way to search about the truth. Know that He loves you and His love is moving you on. But how can you walk through every quality? If you want to walk through all the qualities, it will take a long time. But it is your fortune that Allah gives you your guide to take you through the qualities to the name. He put you with your Beloved face to face from the beginning, and he told you to remember the name. Because within the name are all the attributes, and when you remember the name, it is not necessary to remember every quality. The name is the ocean and the qualities are the springs. Water for every spring comes from the ocean. If you want to drink, to travel from the gross world to the world of the essence of the soul, travel to the ocean. By ocean, I mean the name of Allah.

Live at once in the light of the essence beyond all form and walk through the particular quality you wish to realize. For example: to see through the All-Seeing (al-Basir) and to hear through the All-Hearing (as-Sami), know Who sees, Who hears, Who gives, Who takes. Then you return all the qualities as you experience them, while remembering the name, to the presence behind the name, to the Truth within the presence and to the Reality beyond all pictures of the truth.

Beloved, I want to return to this world. The world is like a shadow to the truth. The shadow has no substance, no light, no soul of its own. It is a projection of that existence which it reflects. The reality is veiled by truth, truth by presence, and the presence by the attributes of Allah. The pure essence of the attributes manifests in angelic forms, in mankind, in animals, and in the world of nature. All of the creation is the face of Allah. But look through the face to know the deep breath which gives everything that lives the Life (al-Hayy) of God, the Truth (al-Haqq), the Strength (al-Qawi), and all the qualities of the Creator Himself, through which He manifests the limitless transcendence of His being in form for the sake of the revelation of His deep secret love. When Allah created Adam, He made him with this strength of His own to carry all that He has, and He put him in the garden for one thing – to show him the real wisdom. What is the wisdom?

The pure Adam, the original Adam lived only to remember. He had no body, only Allah. He had no beginning nor end, only light from Allah; no shadow of presence apart from Allah. After that, Allah, in His wisdom, wanted the creation of the world(s). If He had not put nafs in Adam, there would be no world because Adam was turned only to Him and Allah had to turn him toward the creation of the world in order for mankind to be born through him. So He put in Adam the self, and this self was in three parts. First, the desire to eat the fruit and then to eliminate (nafs-as-shahwaniyya). For this he had to leave the garden because in the garden of the first world there was no eating or defecating or sleeping, no fruit, and no separation of Adam from the light of Allah. Then the desire to sleep with the woman (nafs-al-jinsiya) and make children, and, and, and to fill the world with human beings. And the third part of the self of Adam was the desire to become king of the creation (nafs-a-shaitara).

Then, as He had put the nafs in Adam to fulfill His plan, He made Iblis, also, to continue His message. Iblis assumed his role just as Adam moved as it was written for him and each moving by His will. Adam and Iblis met in the garden to complete a circle. What of the fruit? The fruit is life – the life of this world. Adam already had life in the first world, the life of the light of Allah, but when he had eaten from the tree, he began to dress in ninety-nine veils and to carry many qualities between himself and his original light, the secret of Allah, which was the only thing he knew in the first world. From the first world, many worlds arose through the agency of the self (an-nafs) of Adam, through his desire to eat and sleep and be king of the creation. Now you see two Adams. The first is the pure original mirror of Allah and the second is the metaphorical Adam (the human being), who is a shadow of the original Adam. You cannot see the first Adam with human eyes if you do not know the second, the metaphorical Adam. When you look at him with the eyes of your face, you see a human being like other human beings, but when you see the original Adam with the eye of your soul, you see only Allah in His created mirror. The metaphorical Adam is a veil for Allah. Although He put all His wisdom and light in Adam to know Him, Adam must also know himself through the metaphor of his own existence for the sake of the creation of the world. The deep Adam is the true son of his Father and the eye of Allah through which He sees.

He says to Adam, “If you eat the fruit and you do not lose me, you can eat the fruit of life. But if in eating the fruit, you forget the secret, do not eat.” So Adam ate for the procreation of life and covered his naked reality in Allah with the dresses of His qualities. He kept the secret inside the cover of the qualities, and does not reveal this secret to anyone except by His order in His time. Before the fruit, Allah gave the order to the deep secret soul of Adam to give birth to himself, to see himself in himself, and this image of himself, returned to him, is Eve. In reality there is no separation between Adam and Eve. Adam is Eve and Eve is Adam. She is the mirror of him, from him to him, and of his own substance. She also gives birth to him when she makes love with him. So she is his mother, daughter, and sister, as well as himself. Before Adam slept with Eve, he ate to take the secret life from the tree. What is the tree? It is herself, the essence of Eve, the mother. So first he ate of the essence of her life and then he entered her to give birth to himself again through her.

What about Iblis? As I said, Iblis is a presence, a shadow. He could not tempt the prophet Adam because Adam was with his God all the time. But Iblis came to Adam in the form of a snake. By snake, I mean the dunya, and by dunya, I mean the world and the nafs, the ego. It was from Iblis’s message to offer Adam the fruit. If he did not offer this fruit to Adam, he would not be doing his job as the guardian of the gate of the garden, and what Iblis offered to Adam, he continues to offer to the sons of Adam; this being his first task.

From the outside it may appear that Adam succumbed to the voice of Iblis and ate the fruit by his urging. But in the inner truth, Adam listened only to the voice of his Lord, who said to him, “Eat of life, if you can eat without losing the deep secret love, My truth within you.” Adam knew his message well. When he ate the fruit, it was to give the truth a presence, a life in form, and all the sons of Adam come from him. For this reason, Allah made him caliph because he held all His secrets in his heart and obeyed every order, and he is the root of the holy tree which begins to grow up from him.

This is the same tree which he saw before in the garden, and he ate from her so that she could, through his body, become incarnate on earth. The metaphor of Adam is the truth of Adam, and the truth of Adam is the truth of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon all the holy line. Thus Adam is the first complete person (al-insan al-kamil), and within him is all the existence of mind and all the existence of soul. He embodies the deep truth of all humanity, and her truth does not end. She is in every place, in every time. Allah commands the angels to prostrate before this truth. You can see the light of Adam in every one of his sons, and you can hear his voice in every voice, if you listen with the deep ear because there is no one, only He in this world, and there is no separation between Him and His family, and His family is He. His life is one with the life of the family and this life is al-Hayy, the Life. Eve is himself. When he looks to her, he sees himself and not another. He listens to her voice and this is his voice, truly; and when he listened to his voice in her, he ate and slept; yet this was also obedience to the deeper voice of the will of Allah, to put His truth inside her so that she could give birth to another Adam to send this truth to all the children who came from this union. This was the deep surrender to the will of Allah because if not for this eating and sleeping, how could the message be continued and the hidden treasure be revealed? And if Adam did not make what he made, how could you see yourself now searching about his original truth? This is from the deep secret of His wisdom. And Iblis also listens with the deep secret ear and he knows his place well. According to the order for him, he must continue to be the guide for the darkness. For this reason, it is necessary to hear the message of the darkness in order to fully realize the message of the light.

Why is it said that when Adam ate the fruit he had to leave the garden? What does this mean? Where did he go? I want to explain about the garden. People think that the garden is full of fruits and trees and flowers, but before he tasted, and before he slept, and before the fruit appeared to him, and before the conception of the birth of the world, Adam lived in the true paradise of the presence of Allah, the world of pre-eternity, which as we have said, was light upon light. The spirit of the truth of Adam wants to guide his sons back to the first garden, the paradise of the presence of the unity of God. It appears that Adam left the pure light of being in the garden to give birth to the life of the world, but in reality he did not leave the garden, nor did the garden leave him. He took the garden into the deep secret essence of his soul and covered it with the veils of all the qualities of creation, like a bride who covers herself in the midst of the world to preserve her beauty for her Beloved alone. This is the answer to the question of the angels. It is easier to preserve the light when one is surrounded by light and enveloped by light. But the task of Adam and the sons of Adam is greater ­– to preserve the deep secret light of the garden in the midst of the veils and darkness of the created world. For this reason, Allah sent prophet after prophet to preserve the deep secret truth of Adam and to keep it alive in his sons (those that have ears to hear). And after Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, this wisdom is passed down through an unbroken line of guides who are al-insan al-kamil and the living spirit of the prophecy in their time.

Understand my beloved, with the deep eye of Adam within you, why Allah created Adam to be the caliph of His holy earth. Now look deeper. I want to reveal to you the heart of the kingdom. As above, so below, and in the heart of the kingdom on high is the holy throne. Ascend to understand and to see with your own heart’s eye, and I will tell you a small story about the night voyage (al-mi’raj) of the Prophet Muhammad. Now we will see just a glimpse, and later in our journey we will return to this illumined sky.

It is reported that Muhammad, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, was taken one night from Mecca to Jerusalem and then ascended from al-Aqsa Mosque into heaven with the archangel, Gabriel. Together they passed through the seven planes, and when they had reached the highest plane, the plane of the pure light of Allah, Muhammad disappeared (he returned to his original state). Gabriel could not see him because he was indistinguishable from the presence of Allah, but he heard the Prophet speak. Muhammad asked Gabriel, “Did you see, before Allah put me in the body of Muhammad, a star over His throne?” Gabriel answered, “All the angels have seen this great star which illumined all the heavens with its light, and every light on every side shines forth from that star above the throne. For five thousand years before the creation (in the time of Allah one day is equal to five hundred years), we saw that star above the throne of Allah.” Muhammad said, “I am that star. I am from Allah to Allah, without place, without separation. When Adam was created to be caliph on earth, Allah sent the star to Adam, and when he returned to Allah in presence and form, the star returned to its place above the throne. Then Allah sent the star to Noah and Abraham and all of the prophets until the body of Muhammad came to manifest the light of this star, which is the light of the pre-eternal wisdom of Muhammad. When this body returns to Allah, the light of the star will not return to the throne but it will remain in all the creation. And when any creature returns to his truth, he can discover the light of Muhammad (an-nur-i-Muhammadi) within himself, to carry what I carry and to see what I see.” This is what Allah meant when He said to the Prophet, “I sent you as a mercy to every people and everything because your light is My light.”

So we come to understand that by virtue of the pre-eternal truth of the essence of Muhammad, which came so much later to be manifested in a body, Muhammad is the father of spirits without limit. When Allah wished to reveal Himself before the creation of any form, He took a handful of light from His face and said, “Be Muhammad.” Then he drew from the light of the original wisdom, the nur-i-Muhammadi, sending this light in every direction and imparted His being to the creation. Thus Muhammad says, “I was the wisdom, the essence of the Prophet, when Adam was between water and clay.”

Beloved, the light of the star, whose original home is the illuminated sky above the throne of the most high, lives now within you. If you wish to discover and to liberate this light of your own original wisdom, it is necessary to distinguish the primal truth body of the Prophet from the body of water and clay.

What is the meaning of the Bay’ah (promise) and what does it mean to be a Slave for Allah

Student: What is the meaning of the bay’ah?

Sidi: This is the Promise to Allah. This is a great Order and a secret Order. Not everyone can taste the real meaning of the bay’ah if he does not walk. It is only for the student who has walked through all the stations and is complete to really taste. It can only be fully understood with the Order from Allah. Many students come and do not really taste the meaning of bay’ah. It is a very holy Order because this is a very special Way. Allah has made everything in this Way for the student to walk straight, cleanly, and quickly. There is no Way like this Way.

The meaning of the bay’ah is:

I am a slave and I believe that You are my God.
I believe in all the Orders that You have sent with all the Prophets.
I do not make a difference between any of them.
I promise to walk straight and not to make mistakes.
I promise to give the Mercy to everyone and to send the Love and the Peace to everyone.
Help me, my God, to be special for You.

This is is what I promise.

Student: What does it mean to be a slave?

Sidi: To be a slave for your God is the highest station a faqir can hope to reach. He stands in front of his God, Face to Face, all his time. In every waking moment he moves with the Order of God, totally surrendering everything to Him, without the desire for anything but the Love of God. In reality the student has nothing to give, because everything is from the Soul of Allah, and there is no you and there is no He, but everything is One picture. Being a slave for Allah means to carry all the qualities of Allah and not to move without His order. No separation is made between anyone created by Allah and the slave is there for everyone and contains everyone. The slave always lives in the complete freedom because he always lives in the world of the unity.

The Secret of the Love of God

This is a truly wonderful teaching. When Sidi first started coming to this country this is a teaching that would be read and Sidi would talk about at every community we visited. Love is the basis of all the stations and I strongly suggest both listening to the audio of this teaching and writing it by hand numerous times.

The Secret of the Love of God

Bismi‘llah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

That which one yearns for, he loves, and this yearning makes Him great by transforming the depth of poverty in the yearning of His slave, his need and his longing to give Him everything, what his heart truly desires. This yearning (al-himma) is the oil in the fire of God’s passion, which makes this fire in the heart of the lover grow very hot and strong and bright. Sparks fly as the lover turns to the right and left, cooking in the fire of love, and becoming more and more tender and ready to be consumed.

The quality of love of which we speak is such that both lover and Beloved are consumed by a single flame, and whether by union or by seeming separation, by presence or absence, the flame is fanned. The lover kills himself to live in his Beloved and destroys all his qualities; he empties the cup of his existence so that it may be filled entirely with the qualities and presence of his Lord.

Why does Allah give the name al-mahabba (gift of love) to this quality of love? Because this fire purifies the heart of everything but the Beloved (al-Mahbub) and the beloved is one who puts his neck on the doorsill of his Beloved and whose heart is inseparable from his Beloved, breath to breath, moment to moment; and his heart is eaten by the fire of the Beloved, yet this fire is not fire, but light upon light. Then when he speaks, he speaks with his Lord, and when he walks, he walks with his Lord, and when he sleeps, he sleeps with his Lord. As Allah says to His prophet David, “I forbid the hearts of My lovers any love except My love. Understand, David, My beloved.”

But the love of Allah has two sides – the love of the truth for the human being and the love of the human being for truth. When truth loves a person, the truth of love within him moves him to love whatever he loves. Not understanding what is inspiring him to love, he attaches the energy of his feeling to what appears to him without as the object of his love. For example, when the love moves a man to love a woman and he stops with her body, the very body he thinks he loves becomes a strong veil to the essence of the love which is moving him. Then he is moving as an animal moves and loving as an animal loves. In this he touches only some of the love, the smell of the love and the heat of the fire, but this is not enough for him to taste the fullness of the truth of the love which is moving him.

When the fire of his love touches the essence of the love of the soul of the woman he loves, then the sparks and the waves of flame flash out and return to their source in the blaze of divine passion (al-’ishq), and his body disappears, and her body also disappears. All the veils, all the fascination of coming and going between them disappears in the experience of their indivisible unity, and God returns to love Himself alone. But He created these people and the fire between them to realize the essence of His love. Whereas, in the beginning, the man thought he loved a woman, when he comes to realize the essence of the fire, he sees that he himself is the Beloved and she is also the Beloved and in this, Allah alone is the Beloved and no other exists.

As Allah has said, “I was a hidden treasure that desired to be known. So I manifested all the creation to reveal the essence of the deep secret knowing of Myself. He whom I created to reveal the treasure carries within himself this treasure, but he must explode the mountain of his existence to discover the treasure which is hidden within it.”

When a man thinks he loves the body of a woman, the body is a veil to his true love. Then the body of his entire existence is a veil, like a mountain in which the treasure is concealed, and Allah created this mountain of His water and clay, exactly, in order that He could bury His treasure within it.

This is the first part of the love in which Allah breathes all the creation into existence, and the second part of the love is the return in which the creature breathes his existence back into his Lord. But how do you explode the mountain of your entire being? Plant the flaming seed of your yearning in your own earth. When a man loves a woman, it is to know her as himself, to love her, to enter her as himself, as Adam entered Eve – who was of his own substance and truth – to penetrate her body as a veil and touch the essence within her, within himself. When you use the fire of your passion to open yourself, to know yourself, and to know the treasure which is hidden within you, the fire of your yearning explodes, in the depth of your own substance, creating an opening within, a space within.

Before, when the fire went outside, the earth within was dense and obscure, but now the density breaks open inside after this holy fire of love cleans the inner earth. Then plant your tree. Put the seed back into your earth, water it with the living water, the essence of love, fertilize it with all the accumulated compost of your mind and self, and let it grow up in the light of knowing. Keep the breath of adh-dhikr moving around it, so that the garden of the soul does not stagnate, and the tree always has space to grow in. When the tree is grown, keep this tree inside you. Then sit under it and take a branch in your hand, and take the fruit from the branch of the milk of the essence of the love. By eating this you begin to live, and in so giving birth to yourself, you unearth the holy treasure which He created you to bear. Then when you look into the treasure with the eye of your soul, you see One Who sees you looking into the essence of the jewel. Allah sees you as you see Him. Look again. There is no you, only He. It is He Who sees Himself in the mirror of your soul, as it remembers itself in the treasure of His essence. Then, in truth, you live in the garden of love, and the breath of love has two dimensions. Breathe fully in and out to embrace the full circle of the love without losing any breath, any side or dimension, to experience the creation and re-creation of yourself by the mercy of Allah and His desire to be known. And with all this, return.

Know my beloved, that the love is eternal between Allah and His creation and the electric circuitry of His love flows through everything. If not for this, nothing would move that moves; nothing would live that lives. Every planet in its orbit and every cell in its course is a witness to the love of Allah and a sign of His wisdom. Keep this love inside you and live with it all the time because the moment you lose it, you lose yourself; you lose Him. This is your message from your Beloved Allah, if you know Who speaks with you. I am the love. I am the wine. Drink this wine to know me well.

As you drink, I ask you beloved, to listen with the deep ear of the presence of Muhammad, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, within you, in which you are one of his people. Be with me in all your senses and prepare to receive wisdom from within your heart, which is bound to his heart having been annihilated in the overwhelming love of your essence. The language of speaking is inadequate to reveal this teaching, and also the language of body, heart, and soul are not high enough. Listen to the tongue of God’s caring, because if He did not care, He would not be calling you now. For that reason, He speaks to you by means of the tongue of His love for you, saying, “O you who believe…

“Dearly beloved, who believes in everything that has been revealed to your heart – all of the meanings of the knowledge of truth which you have come to realize and embrace – be with Me in everything that I want from you in the way of knowledge. If you don’t listen, you will have lost the chance to see Me, and the advantage of My wisdom, and the secrets of My love, which you must know and which you cannot live without. I mean by life, that you live for My sake and I live for yours. Then you shall be Mine and I shall be yours.”

When one is in this state, he is prostrate before his Beloved in the qibla of love, and he is annihilated in his Beloved so as to remain beloved by Him. This is the meaning of the term ‘absolute eternal life’. The two are annihilated in each other so that both will remain beloved of the other. It is here that I say:

He who loves Me, knows Me,
and He who knows Me, finds Me,
He who finds Me, becomes inflamed by My passion.
I have killed him, so that I may bring him back to life.
And he whom I have killed, I owe him a debt;
And to the one that is owed, I become that which is owed.
There is no difference between Me and him
because I am he and he is I.

“So for the one who loves Me in this fashion, it is imperative that he truly taste the fire of My passion.” This fire is not a fire of the senses, it is light upon light. It is light issuing like the fire of Moses when he stood on the Mountain of at-Tajjali. This refers to the revelation, the supreme eternal power of the constant uninterrupted connection between Moses and God. It is the same fire which issues from the lights of God to all His lovers and through the perfected ones (al-insan al-kamil) who carry the presence of the reality of the love of essence which is inherent in everything.

From this love is extended all of the species of animals and birds and all creatures like a network of electrical wiring, and it is for this reason that I say, “This fire is the electricity of love.” No one knows it except the one who is immersed in the flow of its currents. And I would like you to be one of those people who forever swim in the ocean of this love, not only swimming therein, but drinking of its wine. Its wine absents one from all things except the One in Whose passion he is inflamed. And by wine, I mean his return to the reality from where he came.

So know beloved, that the basis of love is knowledge and the basis of knowledge is existence. This is the station of ascension by means of love. As one knows and becomes known, he finds and becomes found. He has come to know and has come to love. Then he comes to a love higher than that, and he comes to know with a higher knowledge, and he finds that he exists in a higher existence.

As for the station of descent, it is not really descending. Verily its possessor stands on the summit of divine existence. One who is inflamed in passion and slain by the One in Whose passion he is inflamed, becomes the one who owes and he becomes that which is owed.

Therefore, the station of ascension teaches him about existence, and the station of descent makes him realize that he is existence and none other, and there is nothing contained in existence, except Allah. Understand, my beloved, that the station of ascension is a path that has two dimensions – the human being and God, and each of these is distinguishable. And as for the station of descent, it is the absolute truth. When all the senses disappear from a person and he is slain by the One in Whose passion he is inflamed, he is finished with all the worlds. The image of the human being disappears from him and he reverts to his initial reality. He returns to where he was in pre-eternity, without method or dimension, without color or form, without sex, male or female. And know that his reality is the reality of God. For this reason:

He who loves Me by means of the veil of My image
knows Me by means of My knowledge that it is My image.
And he who knows Me by means of My knowledge that it is My image
finds Me in his image by means of My image.
Then he who finds Me in his image by means of My image
becomes inflamed in My passion by means of My reality.
And he who becomes inflamed in My passion by means of My reality
is slain by My reality.
And whoever is slain by My reality,
My reality is the One who owes him.
Whomever My reality owes,
there is no difference between him and My reality.

This is the consumption in the fire of the divine reality (at-tahawwuh) which fire does not touch. When one has become inflamed in passion in this station, he becomes light upon light, and a guiding light that reveals the way to people, outwardly to those who look without and inwardly to those who look within. Thus God, who is the perfect person (al-insan al-kamil) who has become myself, guides whom He will and that one is Himself. That is to say, when he arrives at the truth, he realizes that he is the truth and the truth is only known by truth.

O you who love and you who yearn in passion, do you not know who he is, the perfected one who bears the image of absolute love which has no beginning or end? His reality is your reality. By means of this, you realize that you are the one whom you seek, and you are renewed in eternal life after which there is no death. Understand.

When you find the love, you find yourself. The secret is in the love. You are the love, not another. Everything is in the love, and everyone needs the love. If you find this, what more could you want? When you know, what could you want? When you have the knowledge of the love, you feel peace in your heart. The jewels are inside you. This is the holy meaning. When you understand, then you are the meaning, the holy meaning. But look and reach so that you find every meaning and do not hesitate because inside every meaning is the quality of the love. The love has seven qualities and this love knows no differences. If the Muslims, Jews, Christians, and the people of any other religion, knew their religion well, there would only be one religion, the religion of love and peace and mercy.

Leave everything outside that is not useful and give everything to God to live inside His garden of love. Remember the name of God at every waking moment, and you will find Him beside you, to help you to walk in the way. Be courteous with everyone you meet. Give them mercy to help them to know the meaning of this love. Give and listen to everyone who speaks to you. Listen with the ear of your heart because this is the voice of God speaking to you, trying to help you to know Him. If you hear another voice, it is wrong. Open your heart to God and He will give you everything. Then your heart will feel quiet and you will only see the love, only the love.

You are the reflection of God. There is nothing, only He. Where is another? Give everything to God and you will begin to know yourself. When God made you, He made beauty. Live with the people on the outside, but hear only your God. Those who live in the outside world are like jewels that need cleaning. They need the fire to burn away all their imperfections so that the jewel may reflect its inner beauty. If you are not clean, how can you find the love? The Sufi way is the straight way – walking a straight path to God, letting nothing on either side block the vision of the straight way. I will ask God to send mercy and peace to everyone because He is the Peace.

If you want God, remember that He gives you what you want. Don’t be afraid. God will not give to you anything that is not good. We must see God in the face of every human being. When you walk and when you sleep, remember the name of God because He knows no time. When you pray to God, pray only to love Him. Do not pray for Him to put you in the garden. God throws out a net, and when He catches you in this net, then you are in the garden. Every student needs God.
When He helps you to find Him, then pray, and when you look into another’s eyes, see the reflection of God looking at you. Understand that inside every word is a message or a sign from God. See the picture of God in every person that you meet.

All the troubles in the world are necessary. If there was no darkness, how could there be light? If you did not see sadness, how could you see happiness? Be courteous to everyone and see the face of God in every person, but know that the people on the outside carry two faces. On the inside they carry the face of God, but on the outside, the face of the shaitan. Be polite with both faces, and when you see someone angry or shouting, know Who speaks with you. Everyone has put himself in his place and this is the station for that person. Be polite with him and give him mercy. Be with God all the time and do not speak with anyone from the outside unless it is necessary.

Give your time for God and He will change you from station to station, cleaning your heart of everything that is not good. This is the message of the prophets. It is a difficult way and at the same time a very easy way. When anyone wants to know God, He will help anyone to walk the straight way.

Follow one guide to take you by the hand, to guide you from the darkness to the light. He will make the walking easy for you and then you can rest. If you go from here to there, you lose time. The student of the family of God rests because he lives in the garden. When anyone knows why he lives and walks in this created world, then he begins to know himself. We are here only to know Him. Live all the time in the garden of love. When your heart feels love, then everything around you is quiet and at peace. This is from the message, but not all the message. Live to love and to know God
